♦ Thoughts on the iPad

I received my iPad on Saturday, a day after the official release in 9 more countries outside the U.S. I’d like to share my initial thoughts on the device with you, considering some business-model aspects as well as usability in an academic environment.

First off: I am truly impressed with the device. It was well worth the investment. That said, let’s ditch all the ballyhoo and jump right to some more critical points.

Cell Data Usage

My iPhone Cell Data Usage so far on Swisscom Mobile. I have a 350MB cap. Just thought it interesting that it isn’t just rising. And I can’t pinpoint any event in March that would have brought on that spike. It seemed gradual.


Most HDMI Cables are a rip-off

With HDMI being a digital signal, sending a string of 1′s and 0′s, it either works perfectly or not at all. The digital content in the HDMI cable does not change between your video player and TV any more than your photos do going from your digital camera to your hard drive.

Logical, but I never noticed. I’ve seen people buy gold-plated cables at exorbitant prices, and I think it’s a scandal.

Really nice idea, and great for saving money. Still seems a bit of a “quick and dirty” solution to me. Still, I’d rather eliminate those cables rather than having to manage them.
